Donelson – just a “Slip Up” from the City and Oh So Hip!
Andrew Jackson once called the area around The Hermitage “Slip Up” but it’s now called Hip D. It may be a far cry from the dairy farm it used to be, but Nashville’s best kept secret is Donelson in zip code 37214.
Just 7 miles from downtown riverfront, Donelson sits along the Lebanon Road corridor and has in 2016 realtor.com rated it the 15th most desirable zip code in the country. The lots have mature trees, often an acre or more, and prices are increasing slowly. Lately finding a property for sale in 37214 is akin to finding a needle in a haystack and when you do find them they are mostly ranch style homes and a few charming 1940’s-1950’s style cottages.
Transportation is one of Donelson’s crown jewels because of the Music City Star which is a light rail commuter train running from Downtown Nashville Riverfront to Watertown daily during morning and evening rush hours and special events. Donelson also has a very strong community infrastructure in place with the Councilman Jeff Syracuse fighting for Donelson’s growth and protecting the vision of the Urban District Overlay for Donelson which forecasts new businesses and updates the walkability and infastructure of the community to help it grow. Hip Donelson, and the very popular Hip Donelson Farmers Market is a producer’s only market since 2012 that runs from May-October in the heart of Donelson by neighborhood restaurants like Phat Bites, McNamara’s Irish Pub and the Homegrown Tap Room.
The sounds of Donelson are what make it so unique. Only minutes from the Nashville International Airport you can always hear planes, our commuter trains, and sometimes if you are lucky you catch a glimpse of the Nationally recognized McGavock High School Drum Line and Band which practice off McGavock Pike most week nights when the weather is warm. Anthony and I have called Donelson home since 1999 and we don’t plan another move for years to come.
Home prices range from about $100 per sq. foot and you can still find basements and large lots with wooded trees. Close to Opryland Hotel, I-40, Airport, and Two Rivers Park and Wave Country Wave Pool.
